Annual General Meeting 2024

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) for Abingdon Muslims will be held on April 28, 2024. During the meeting, we will be electing the new trustees who will guide us on the path to realizing our dream of building the Abingdon Islamic Cultural Centre (AICC). The new Board of Trustees will consist of six (6) members. We have seen a good response from the community to the call for nominations and a diverse set of nominations has been received. Ahsan and his wife have recently moved to Abingdon from Oxford, before which they were living in Lincoln. The sizeable Muslim community in Lincoln has recently built its masjid within the past 5 years, and Ahsan can help in reaching out to the admin team, to ask about their fundraising and building experiences. He is a practicing NHS GP, currently leading the Oxford City, Urgent Care Centre. He is an honest person and would love to play an active part in the Abingdon Muslim community.

Within the brief time Aziz has been involved with the Abingdon Muslims Community, he has been impressive, showing great fervor, innovation, and self-drive. He consistently demonstrates ownership and promptly addresses challenges and changing circumstances. With his youthful energy, it would be truly beneficial to have Aziz onboard as a trustee.

Ghazala is a scientist holding degrees in Science and an MBA, and she currently works as a proficient project manager. With extensive experience in both science and project management, Ghazala brings a highly analytical approach to her work. Having resided in Abingdon for over 15 years, she has deeply ingrained herself within the community and is an active member of the Abingdon Muslim community. Ghazala's dedication is evident through her tireless efforts in fundraising for the AICC. Given her wealth of experience and commitment, Ghazala Mirza would undoubtedly excel as a trustee for the charity.

Haithem is a well-respected and well-known person within the community. He has been actively involved in supporting the routine activities of Abingdon Muslims even before the Mosque project had started. He is highly educated and his skills and experience with Marketing activities would be highly useful.

Hamid Hamirani is an experienced senior finance and investment professional who has held public leadership roles. His skills are needed at this critical time of our goal of establishing a mosque in Abingdon.

As an active member of the Abingdon Muslim community since 2017, Ibrahim has previously served as the secretary of charity. With a profound love for our community and a steadfast belief in the importance of investing in future generations, Ibrahim is driven to contribute to the strategic direction and long-term sustainability of our charity. As a father of three boys, he is acutely aware of the significance of our actions today in shaping a brighter tomorrow for our children and generations to come. In a professional capacity as a content engineer at Oxford University Press, he brings a wealth of skills and experience to the table. His role involves structuring content to ensure its accessibility across various media platforms, a skill set that we should leverage to enhance the reach and effectiveness of our charity's initiatives. Furthermore, his multicultural background, having lived in the UK for over two decades while maintaining connections to his homeland in Niger, provides him with a unique perspective and a deep appreciation for diversity and inclusivity. In seeking the role of trustee, he is fully dedicated to upholding the values and principles of Abingdon Muslims Charity, working collaboratively with fellow trustees and stakeholders to drive positive change and make a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve.

Laura is a qualified teacher, teaching part-time and working hard as a wife and mother of three young children. She is a super organiser, committed to the deen and the Abingdon community mosque project. As a convert, she also knows how to help those converting to Islam, and understands well the non-Muslim community and how to counteract their negative perceptions. Her contribution to the position would be unique and valuable.

Wasim is a financial advisor with a good grasp of managing finances. He is also a school governor at Kingfisher School. He has been a part of the Abingdon Muslim society since the very beginning. He knows Abingdon very well and has an extensive network outside of the Muslim community in Abingdon as well as a large network of family and Muslim connections in Oxford. He can benefit the Islamic centre as a trustee with his skill sets but also as a reliable good citizen. One of the key strengths he will bring is good communication with our members and a good connection to the wider community of Abingdon and Oxfordshire.
